About Us

Matthew 16:18 (KJV)
18   And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

On June 12, 1840, after a sermon from the text, “On this rock I will build my church,” delivered by Reverend C. A. Tharpe, a group of local residents formed a spiritual organization and named it Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  A new church was erected in 1890 in a new location adjacent to the site now occupied by the church cemetery.  Early in the life of the church, Mt. Calvary united with the Ebenezer Baptist Association.  In 1906, the church joined the newly organized Pulaski-Bleckley Association and is an active member today. In 1978, a new church building was constructed on the site formerly occupied by Cary School.  The old 1890 building was sold and dismantled.  In 2002, the church dedicated the addition of a new fellowship hall and an education complex.

Historical picture of Mt. Calvary Baptist ChurchFor over 177 years, Mt. Calvary has existed to worship God and serve people.  Building on a rich heritage, our Pastor, staff, leadership, and members are committed to be witnesses of the Gospel as commanded by Christ in Acts 1:8.  Adults and Youth are actively participating in disaster relief, and short term local, national and international mission projects.  The Brotherhood, Women’s Ministry, Nursing Home Ministry, Nursery, Children’s activities, Youth Support Team, Prayer Team, and WMU all provide excellent opportunities for anyone interested in serving our LORD.

Mt. Calvary offers exciting worship and 17 Sunday School classes each Sunday morning at 9:45am, and 11:00am, respectively.  Our worship services are enhanced by a great choir, praise teams, soloists, and congregational singing, and a Children’s sermon.  Church Training for children, youth, and adults is offered weekly.
